Flying Chihuahuas: dogs change coast in big exodus

LOS ANGELES — Chihuahuas have been flying out of California since other states learned about the Golden State’s glut of the little dogs.

A group of 20 dogs has already arrived at the Humane Society for Greater Nashua in New Hampshire, thanks to American Airlines, Kinder4Rescue in Studio City and “Grey’s Anatomy” actress Katherine Heigl.

Another group will leave for New Hampshire in the next four days, said Laurel Kinder, who held a news conference Friday with Los Angeles animal officials to announce Project Flying Chihuahua.

And ASPCA spokeswoman Gail Buchwald says Virgin America will be ferrying a group of Chihuahuas to New York City from San Francisco Animal Care & Control on Tuesday.
